Travel to Bogotá
In April 2003 I traveled to Bogotá, where I led some workshops and lectures at the request of writer Carlos Grassa. Accompanied by two friends: Aura and Diana, I walked around, taking notes and photographs.
Back in Madrid, I did twelve artworks on paper “Creysse” (76cm x 112cm), pencil, ink, gouache and powder watercolor, about five different places in the city, since one of the works is composed of eight cardboards.
The first drawing shows the Plaza de Simón Bolivar: Among the cathedral, the Mayor’s Office or the Capitol, different characters wander, represented in impossible scales that make them overcome, in some cases, the buildings.
The second one reflects a Transmilenio station on Avenida Jiménez but, as always, with more accent on the variety of people around it.
The third picture portrays a trip by bus through the diagonal 109. Vendors of oats, panela, red wine, aromatic …. passengers negotiating the price of the ticket.
The fourth one is ambitious: it represents, on the eight cardboards, the old neighborhood of El Cartucho, now remodeled: I combine the real image of buildings, small buildings, the extensive street market and distant neighborhoods, with other drawings more or less allegorical of the stark reality that the area gave off; It is a work with dozens of characters and situations.
The fifth image arised after my visit to my friend´s neighborhood, Diana, who lived in San Blas. In its high part there is a square, head of a line of vans, flanked by a church and a school.
The twelve paintings were exhibited for the first time in Seville in 2011.
Also, during 2016 they were exhibited at exhibition halls in Logroño, Córdoba and Madrid.
